Sharon is a primary special education and early literacy teacher from Ontario. She has been teaching for over 30 years. Throughout her career, she has taught Junior and Senior Kindergarten, Grades One, Two and Three and Special Education. Most recently, Sharon has been in the roles of Early Literacy, Student Success and Special Education as a teacher and leader. Sharon's maintains a keen interest in promoting student success through early literacy identification and intervention for K-6; and in special education, working with students with Learning Disabilities and Autism.
Sharon has mentored many teachers in primary
education, reading, technology and special education. She has
shared her expertise with colleagues in the use of the SMART Board, creation of
Notebook lessons, assistive technology for special education and using many other
reading and writing resources. Sharon has developed and led several
educational reading programs for parents, teachers and students to inform and enhance
student success. She has contributed to UGDSB writing teams for
Kindergarten and Co-Teaching curriculums and brochures and has been
instrumental in organizing a collaborative "Getting Ready to Learn
Fair" for parents of Kindergarten students. As well as leading many
school initiatives, Sharon developed a Primary Tracking Board
for K-3 which keeps track of student PM Benchmark individual levels and growth. It is a tool that was purchased and used by all schools in the board. She has created a K-3 Reading/Writing
Continuum resource for teachers at her school. Sharon has been a Scorer for EQAO Primary Literacy and OSSLT Assessments.
A life-long learner, Sharon is pursuing her Masters of Education at the University of Toronto.
Sharon enjoys travelling, hiking, yoga and spending time with her family and friends.
